The Rectorial Benefice of Llantwit Major

St Illtud's Church.GIF 39K St Illtud's Church is one of the most important sites in British Christianity, being the centre of a great Celtic seat of learning in the 6th century

Welcome to the home page of the parish of Llantwit Major in the diocese of Llandaff, Wales. Home of one of the most important parish churches in the province, Llantwit is centred around the religious community founded by Illtud, a Celtic Christian saint of the sixth century.
The eleventh century church in Llantwit has spectacular wall paintings, Norman stonework including carved Jesse Niche, font, and arches.
This small town off the tourist trail contains many treasures, including access to the wonderful Heritage Coast.
Llantwit is now part of a larger parish with six other medieval churches spread out near the coast. Each church is remarkable in its own way.
Full descriptions of these churches can be found in the book
Medieval Churches of the Vale of Glamorgan
by Geoffrey Orrin, published by David Brown.
